Stags 12th, Athenas 13th at CA/NV Championships

The track & field teams competed at UC San Diego on Friday and Saturday in the California/Nevada Championships.  The Stags finished 12th with 30 points and the Athenas finished 13th with 21 points.  29 schools scored at the meet including 13 from Division I and six from Division II.  CMS was the top scoring Division III team for the men and tied for the best for the women.

Matt Wong broke the CMS school record in the long jump on Friday with a personal best mark of 7.19 meters (23-7.25) while placing third.  His mark currently leads the SCIAC and is ranked second nationally.  Ellyn Erving set a personal best of 12.06 meters (39-7) while placing third in the triple jump on Saturday.  Her mark is third best in SCIAC history and currently leads the nation.

Four additional men placed in the meet.  Alex Lombardo was third in the 1500 meters (3:56.94), Evan Molineux was fourth in the 1500 (3:56.95), Zorg Loustalet was fifth in the 5000 meters (14:41.13) and Alex Mauro was seventh in the 10,000 meters (31:25.07).  Three additional women scored in the meet.  Allison Barnwell was third in the steeplechase (10:53.91), Bridget Blum was fourth in the 5000 meters (17:42.37) and Taia Wu was ninth in the 5000 (18:07.79).

10 personal bests were recorded in the meet including Wong in the long jump, Erving in the triple jump, Bob Owlett in the steeple (9:40.42), Loustalet, Jon Briskman (14:52.08) and Caroline Willian (18:10.20) in the 5000 and Mauro, Matt Cook (32:35.38), Jack Wilson (32:36.80) and Jacob Higle-Ralbovsky (32:44.06) in the 10,000.

The teams will compete this weekend at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational.
