Track & field teams both finish 2-0 at second SCIAC dual

The men's and women's track & field teams both beat Caltech and Pomona-Pitzer in SCIAC dual meets contested at Occidental on Saturday.  The men's respective scores were 138-16 and 92-71 while the women's were 134-20 and 89-73.  The Stags are 4-0 in SCIAC competition and the Athenas are 2-2.  Occidental also participated with the meet and, paired with CMS in dual meets this season, will score against CMS at the final dual meet in April.

The Stags had seven outright winners in the meet with Matt Wong the team's only double winner as he won the long (22-9) and triple (44-11.5) jumps.  Additional winners included Matt Espy in the 110 hurdles (16.24), Alex Lombardo in the steeplechase (9:37.98), Cam Van in the high jump (6-1.25), Alex Rich in the discus throw (127-1) and Sam Perrella in the hammer throw (155-1).  17 personal bests were recorded in the meet including Wong in the 100 (11.12), Chris Jackson in the 400 (50.31), Ashraf Mathkour (1:55.41), Mac Hightower (1:55.76), Ryan Jones (1:57.17) and Will Clausen (1:58.72) in the 800, Kyle Lund (4:01.15), Zorg Loustalet (4:02.61), Lucas Van Houten (4:04.11) and Jesse Joseph (4:09.53) in the 1500, Bob Owlett in the steeple (9:54.05), Matt Mulligan in the 5000 (16:27.49), Senghor Joseph (50.3) and Evan Molineux (50.3) in the 4 x 400, Perrella and Anthony Davanzo (123-11) in the hammer and Iain Laufer in the javelin (84-8).

The Athenas also had seven outright winners including Bridget Blum in the 1500 (4:46.81), Tess Williams in the 5000 (18:07.87), Meg O'Keefe in the 400 hurdles (65.30), Allison Barnwell in the steeplechase (11:12.10), Erin Ristig in the pole vault (10-8.25), Vaiva Palunas in the discus throw (125-10) and the 4 x 400 relay team (4:00.91) of O'Keefe, Amy Hollshwander, Ellyn Erving and Alex Arnett.  13 personal bests were achieved including Stephanie Monahan in the 100 (13.58) and 200 (27.66), Anna Shepard in the 800 (2:35.66), Meghan Fuelling (4:52.21), Taia Wu (4:59.31) and Kathleen Muenzen (5:17.53) in the 1500, Kaitlyn Spees (11:34.70), Caroline Willian (11:42.90) and Amber Scott (12:18.11) in the steeple, Hollshwander in the 400 hurdles (66.87), Ellyn Erving in the 4 x 400 (59.6), Palunas in the discus and Olivia Lanaras in the javelin (88-1).

A select group of athletes will compete this weekend at the California/Nevada Championships at UC San Diego Friday-Saturday, April 4-5.  The entire team will compete the following weekend at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational.
