Coach Retzlaff has forged the Athenas tennis team in a perennial
SCIAC power and one of the best teams in the nation. Her 2006 squad
won their 12th SCIAC title and finished third in the nation, the
best finish by any CMS women's team in any sport. A great player in
her own right she was on scholarship at St. John's and was the team
MVP in both 1982 and 1984. After graduating she played for the US
Maccabi team from 1987-91 and won two golds (in Australia) and a
bronze (in Venezuela).
Retzlaff's coaching career began at Brooklyn College where she
coached for four years before taking time off to get her Master's
degree. After earning her M.S. she started at CMS and began the
Athenas tennis emmergence. She lives in Claremont with her husband
Steve, CMS' assistant head football coach, and their sons, Ryan,
Jacob and Daniel.

Kathy is entering her sixth season as the CMS Assistant Women's
Tennis Coach. Prior to working with the Athenas, Kathy worked
as a Player Relations Manager for the ATP Tour in Ponte Vedra
Beach, FL for over 10 years. Kathy is a USPTR certified
professional and is still enjoys playing adult and family events,
having won four USTA National titles in the Husband/Wife division
(with husband and CMS Men's Tennis Coach, Paul Settles) and one
national double's title in the Women's 35's Clay Court
Division. Kathy played her collegiate tennis at UC Irvine.

Hank Krieger's name is synonymous with CMS Tennis. Coach Krieger
was inducted into the CMS Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004,
recognizing a twenty-two season coaching tenure as Head Coach of
the Stags. During that time his overall winning percentage was .647
and his SCIAC winning percentage was .865. Twice named the NCAA
Division III Coach of the Year (in 1985 and 1993), Krieger was at
the helm for the Stags only national championship (in 1981) and has
coached 24 All-Americans.
After retiring from teaching mathematics at Harvey Mudd College in
May, 2005, Krieger is still actively working on several academic
projects, as well as serving on a handful of community based
committees and boards. His contributions as team consultant,
historian, and volunteer asistant coach continues to be
invaluable.
Hank and his wife Rita live in Claremont. They have two grown
children and four grandchildren.
