March 13, 2009 at CMS (Biszantz Family Tennis Center)
CMS women’s tennis netted a 5-4 victory at home against
Kenyon College on Friday. The Athenas opened strong, taking second
and third doubles to go up 2-1. At #3, Alle Hsu and Caroline Daly
paired up to post the first win of the day with an 8-4 win. At #1,
Hannah Kornfeld and Jessica Fox saved three match points before
dropping the pro-set 8-5.
In singles, Kornfeld and Hsu (#2 and #4, respectively) each won
decisively in straight sets, dropping only seven games between the
two of them. With these victories, CMS took a commanding 4-2 lead
and only needed one more singles victory to clinch the match.
Jessica Fox (#3) battled through a close first set to win 7-5. She
went up 5-4 in the second set and was serving for the set and the
match, but narrowly lost the set, 5-7. She rallied for the third
set, in which she yielded not a single game to clinch the match
victory for the Athenas.
The Athenas are looking forward to home matches facing Whitman
College on Monday at 11 AM and Amherst College on Tuesday at 11
AM.
