Stags Tune Up Against Alums

The 34th annual Ducey Cup Alumni Match was held on Saturday, January 31, with Stags Tennis players past and present celebrating the dedication of the Biszantz Family Tennis Center. In the morning session, the Stags defeated the Alums 12-6 in a series of one-set doubles matches. Later in the afternoon, the Stags returned to take on a group of Alums who have graduated since 2004, with the Alums prevailing 7-6 in a series of five doubles and eight singles pro-sets.

Thirty-one (31) Stags Tennis Alums were present for the morning doubles play and dedication luncheon. In afternoon play, former NCAA singles finalist and three-time All-American John Michael Cham-A-Koon (CMC '04) led the alumni with wins in singles and doubles against Stags captain Lawrence Wang (Sr - Orange, CA). Another former captain and now Assistant Coach, William Ellison (CMC '07), also had two wins. The Stags were led by freshmen Victor Chien (Diamond Bar, CA) and Ari Zyskind (Concord, MA), who won singles matches at the #5 and #8 positions. This year's results reverses what happened a year ago, when the alums edged the Stags in morning doubles play, and then lost to the Stags in the final singles match on court. On Saturday, it was again Evan Feldhausen (CMC '07) playing in the deciding singles match, only this time he held on to defeat senior Ben Wiener (Houston, TX) and earn the victory for the alums.

CMS opens its regular season and dual match play at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center this Saturday, February 7, against Cal Poly Pomona and Chapman at 9:30 AM and 2:00 PM.
