Stags Tennis Sweeps Biszantz Openers

CMS Stags Tennis won their season opening dual matches at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center on Saturday, defeating Cal Poly Pomona 7-2 and Chapman 9-0. CMS did not drop a set in twelve singles matches on the day. Freshman Victor Chien (Diamond Bar, CA - pictured right) won at #3 singles and #3 doubles against Chapman.

The Stags got off to a slow start in doubles on Saturday, with number one pair Robbie Erani (FR - New York, NY) and Mikey Lim (Jr - Honolulu, HI) getting the only win against the Broncos starting teams. However, CMS came back strong in the singles, winning the first set at each of the six positions. Erani was impressive in his dual match debut, playing at the number one position. Stags veterans Lim, Russell Brockett (So - Austin, TX),  Ben Wiener (Sr - Houston, TX), Drew Sabater (Sr - Claremont, CA), and Thomas Keiffer (Jr - La Jolla, CA) also won in straght sets.

Against Chapman, Stags seniors Lawrence Wang  (Orange, CA) and Guillaume Schils (Shaker Heights, OH) got CMS out to a quick 1-0 lead with an efficient 8-2 victory at number one doubles. They were quickly followed by first time freshmen pair Victor Chien (Diamond Bar, CA) and Ari Zyskind (Concord, MA), who won at number three doubles. Mike Starr (Jr - San Ramon, CA) and Ronald Wu (So - Los Altos, CA) earned the doubles sweep for the Stags by posting an 8-5 win at number two. CMS was dominant in singles play, losing only six total games at positions two through five.

CMS opens SCIAC match play against Whittier on Friday, February 13 at 2:00 PM, at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center. The Stags then travel to Cal Lutheran and Westmont on Saturday, February 14 at 9:30 AM and 2:00 PM.
