Bio

Bob Oaks joined the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball program in 2018 after eight seasons of coaching at Azusa Pacific University, and enters his sixth year as an assistant with the program in 2023-24.

Oaks entered collegiate coaching at APU in 2009 after retiring from over 30 years in the lumber industry. He joined his daughter, Gina, on the Cougars’ coaching staff for three seasons (2010-12). Both were on the coaching staff that took Azusa Pacific to consecutive NAIA Softball National Tournaments in 2011 and 2012.

While on staff at APU, Oaks assisted in creating daily individual and team practice plans and itineraries, helped develop workout programs for the summer months and off season, and helped implement a mentorship program for the local youth teams to be more involved with the APU softball program. Oaks assisted in all recruiting aspects including athletic evaluations and off campus contacts, helped plan summer camps as well as weekly hitting and pitching clinics. Oaks was also on the coaching staff when Azusa Pacific won the PacWest Conference Title in 2016.

Oaks, a Southern California native, attended Temple City High School and played college baseball at Pasadena City College.
 
Oaks and his wife, Irene, reside in Rancho Cucamonga. They have two adult children, Bobby and Gina, and six grandchildren.
