CMS Softball Player Briana Halle '18 Earns NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Award

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Former Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball player Briana Halle (CMC '18), who is entering her second year at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, earned a $10,000 scholarship for postgraduate study from the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Committee, the NCAA announced today.

Halle had a standout career on the field and in the classroom over her four years. As a senior in 2018, she was a second-team Google Cloud Academic All-America selection as a science and management major at Claremont McKenna and a starting first baseman for the Athenas. She was the CMC valedictorian for the Class of 2018 with a 3.98 cumulative GPA and also received the Best Overall Senior Award from the science department.

On the field, Halle batted a career-best .350 as a senior to go along with 21 runs batted in. She finished her career with a .308 average, 124 hits and 75 RBI, while earning first-team All-SCIAC honors twice. As a senior, she earned a spot on the NCAA All-Regional team after hitting 3-for-4 in an NCAA Tournament win over George Fox. 

Halle was a part of two SCIAC Tournament championship teams in 2016 and 2018, and had the game-winning RBI in a 2-0 win over La Verne in the championship game of the 2018 tournament. Her teams won 122 games over her four seasons, including three 30-win campaigns.  

The NCAA awards up to 126 postgraduate scholarships annually to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically. The NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship was created in 1964 to promote and encourage graduate education by rewarding the Association's most accomplished student-athletes through their participation in NCAA sports. Athletics and academic achievements, campus involvement, community service, volunteer activities and demonstrated leadership are evaluated.
