Chloe Amarilla Named SCIAC Softball Hitter of the Week

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior pitcher/infielder Chloe Amarilla was named the SCIAC Softball Hitter of the Week for games through Sunday, March 24, the league office announced today.

Amarilla earned the honor after a busy week from her leadoff spot in the batting order, scoring 13 runs over eight games played, while hitting .440 (11-25) and drawing six walks.

She started off her week by scoring six runs in a doubleheader sweep of No. 10 Williams on Monday, including a 4-for-5 effort with four runs scored in the nightcap. She was 1-for-2 with two walks in a 5-4 win in the opener, reaching base seven times in nine plate appearances in the doubleheader.

She added a 3-for-3 effort with three runs scored in a 5-4 win over Cortland on Friday, hitting two doubles while extending her hitting streak to 12 games. That streak was snapped in a 6-4 win over Whittier, when she was 0-for-4 while hitting the ball hard every time up, but she capped off her week with a shutout in the pitching circle in the nightcap.

Amarilla now has won both the SCIAC Hitter of the Week and the SCIAC Pitcher of the Week this season, after earning the latter award following a strong effort at Cal Lutheran. As a team, the Athenas have had five different awards, with freshman Lauren Richards winning the Pitcher of the Week twice, and sophomore Maddie Valdez winning the hitter of the week once.

CMS, which is currently ranked No. 11 in the country, improved to 12-0 in SCIAC with the Whittier sweep and will head on the road this weekend for four conference games, traveling to Redlands on Friday and Chapman on Saturday as it will try to maintain its undefeated league mark.
