Softball Doubleheader with Pomona-Pitzer Moved up to Friday

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The SCIAC softball doubleheader between CMS and Pomona-Pitzer, originally scheduled for Saturday at 12 p.m., has been moved up to Friday at 12 p.m. due to an inclement weather forecast for Saturday.

The battle of Claremont will also be an early-season battle for first place in the SCIAC, as both teams come in with 4-0 records after the first two conference weekends. Pomona-Pitzer won three of the four regular season meetings between the Sixth Street rivals a year ago, but CMS took the fifth meeting in the winner's bracket of the SCIAC Tournament by a 2-1 final, thanks to a tiebreaking homer from current sophomore Maddie Valdez in the bottom of the sixth.

CMS would go on to win the SCIAC Championship over La Verne last year to advance to the NCAA Division III Championships. Pomona-Pitzer was picked first in this year's preseason SCIAC poll by one point over CMS, which did graduate senior pitcher Anna Gurr of last season's championship squad, who had a three-hitter in the tournament win over the Sagehens in May.
