Chloe Amarilla Named SCIAC Softball Pitcher of the Week

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior Chloe Amarilla earned the SCIAC Pitcher of the Week honor for games through Sunday, Feb. 24, the league office announced today.

Amarilla earned the honor after helping CMS get out to a 4-0 start in league play with a doubleheader sweep of Cal Lutheran on Saturday. She earned the win in a 9-6 victory in the opening game, which had a deceptive final score to reflect Amarilla's effectiveness.

After CMS scored nine runs combined in the top of the fourth and the fifth inning, Amarilla came out of the game with the Athenas ahead 9-0. However, Cal Lutheran rallied against the bullpen and came all the way back to 9-6 with one out in the sixth. Amarilla came back in at that point, and essentially saved her own win, retiring the final five batters in order to finish off the 9-6 contest.

For the whole contest, Amarilla's stat line featured only two hits, no runs, and four strikeouts over 6.1 innings of work as the picked up her third win on the season.

It was also the second week in a row that CMS has boasted the SCIAC Pitcher of the Week. Last week, freshman Lauren Richards earned the distinction after allowing no earned runs in a 3-1 complete-game win over Chapman.

CMS will be back in action on Saturday when it welcomes in Pomona-Pitzer for a 12 p.m. doubleheader at Athena Field.
