NFCA Tabs Amarilla as All-American

OKLAHOMA CITY – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced the 45 players chosen for the 2018 NFCA NCAA Division III All-America softball teams on Thursday. After a stellar junior campaign, utility player Chloe Amarilla (CMC) was tabbed as a Third Team All-American as a third baseman, earning the honor for the first time in her career. Amarilla was the only player from the SCIAC to earn All-American status, and the first Athena since Anna Gurr in 2016.

The Claremont, Calif. native led the conference and was 19th in Division III in hits this season with 65. In her breakout season, she put up some of the best numbers for CMS, leading the Athenas in runs scored (38), doubles (14), and on-base percentage (.466). She legged out three triples while knocking in 26 runs and swiping eight bags. Her 20-game hit streak, ranging from Feb. 24-Mar. 30, was the longest of any Athena this season. A threat in the circle as well as at the plate, Amarilla tossed a no-hitter on Mar. 17 against Hamline. She logged 61 strikeouts in 112.1 innings and finished the season with a 2.49 ERA.

The Jill of all trades earned her first All-SCIAC and All-Region accolades this season, being named to First Team in both. Amarilla provided consistency at the heart of the Athenas' lineup, helping lead the team to a SCIAC Tournament Championship and an NCAA Tournament berth with an overall record of 32-14. She is the fourth Athena to ever be named an All-American.
