Gurr and Robinson selected to NFCA All-West Region teams

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The 2016 season concluded for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team in the NCAA Division III Regionals. Over the course of the season, CMS totaled a program-best 37 wins along the way. The Athenas were led in part by stellar seasons from sophomore pitcher Anna Gurr (CMC) and senior outfielder Tara Robinson (CMC) and for their efforts, they were selected to the recently announced National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region teams.

Gurr was one of three pitchers selected First Team All-West Region, while Robinson garnered second team recognition.

This is the first All-Region selection for Gurr, the 2016 SCIAC Pitcher of the Year. This All-Region selection puts Gurr in the running for an NFCA All-America award. All-Americans are selected from the first teams from all eight regions. In conference games, Gurr led the SCIAC in ERA with a 0.80 in 96.2 innings pitched, including eight shutouts. In addition to her 12 conference wins, Gurr recorded four saves, leading the conference in that category as well. She also had the lowest ERA (1.37) and highest win total (23) of any SCIAC pitcher for both conference and non-conference games.

Robinson adds to an already long list of career accolades with her third All-Region selection in four seasons. She finished second in the SCIAC in overall batting average (.431) and second in steals. She was tops on the team in six offensive categories this season.
