Stags Cross Country Takes Fifth (of 24) at UC Riverside Invitational

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's cross country team finished fifth out of 24 teams at the UC Riverside Invitational on Saturday morning in its second event of the 2021 season.

The Stags earned 172 points, and finished ahead of some Division I contingents from Arizona State, Arizona, Pepperdine, UC Riverside and Long Beach State in the 6-10 spots. California Baptist finished first, followed by Fresno Pacific, Pomona-Pitzer and St. Mary's. 

The top three runners for the Stags crossed the line in a virtual dead heat one second apart, with Stevie Steinberg earning 28th with a time of 24:41.2, Miles Christensen taking 29th with a time of 24:42.0, and Kyril Van Schendel clocking a 24:42.2.

Daniel Sealand was the fourth scorer for CMS with a time of 24:59.5, good for 43rd place, and Oliver Pick was the fifth with a time of 25:06.08, placing him 47th. Henry Pick (54th, 25:13.7) and Adam Wilkinson (56th, 25:15.0) were not far off the pace from the top five, while Will Kimball (63rd, 25:22.1) added another high finish in a field of 188 runners. 

CMS will be back in action when it takes part in the Cougar Challenge hosted by CSU San Marcos next weekend.
