CMS Men's Cross Country Dominates the Field to Win Coyote Challenge

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The No. 6 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's cross country team had the top four finishers and six of the top seven as it rolled to a first-place finish at the Coyote Challenge, hosted by CSU San Bernardino on Saturday morning.

CMS' dominant performance gave it 16 points, just one more than the minimum of 15, while second place Concordia Irvine was way behing with 90 points. 

Sophomore Kyril Van Schendel, the reigning SCIAC Cross Country Athlete of the Week, earned a tight win over two of his teammates, crossing the line in 24:11.54. Less than one second behind was senior Thomas D'Anieri, who finished in 24;12.33, and two seconds behind him was junior Stevie Steinberg, who came in with a time of 24:14.33. 

Sophomore Miles Christensen was the fourth Stag to cross in 24:21.88 (and the fourth runner overall to cross) before Ismael Ramirez of the College of the Sequoias ended the run of all-CMS finishers by coming in fifth. Junior Will Kimball was the fifth Stag and sixth runner to finish in 24;28.79 as the final scorer for CMS, who was followed closely by first-year Henry Pick in 24:29.24. 

CMS also added the No. 10-12 finishers in the race as sophomore Adam Wilkinson, first-year Noah Battaglia and first-year Daniel Krasemann all finished within six and a half seconds of each other (24:46.37, 24:49.49, 24:52.64). Junior Daniel Sealand was also in the top 20 for the Stags, coming in 17th place with a 25:03.08. 

CMS will be back in action next week at the Master's Invitational in Santa Clarita.
