Stevie Steinberg Wins SCIAC Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week Honor

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Junior Claremont-Mudd-Scripps runner Stevie Steinberg earned the SCIAC Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week for events through Sept. 8, the conference office announced today.

Steinberg earned the distinction after a fifth-place finish out of 203 runners at the Biola Invitational on Saturday in the opening meet of the season for the Stags, crossing the line in 25:26.95 as the first Stag to finish the 8K race. His efforts helped CMS finish third overall out of 18 teams, finishing in a close three-way race with scholarship programs CSU San Marcos and Biola.

Heading into this season, Steinberg is one of several returning runners who hope to get the Stags to front of the pack in the SCIAC and the West Region. He was an All-West Region selection and a second-team All-SCIAC honoree a year ago, and was one of seven Stags to compete at the NCAA Division III Championships, six of whom are back again this season. His ninth-place performance last year helped CMS tie for first place in the NCAA West Regionals with Pomona-Pitzer.

Steinberg and the Stags will next be in action on Saturday when they travel to compete in the UC Riverside Invitational.
