CMS Men's Cross Country Finishes 11th at Stanford Invitational

PALO ALTO, Calif. - Seven members of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's cross country team finished in the top 100 at the Stanford Invitational, which was held on Saturday morning in Palo Alto.

The event featured 184 runners, including representatives from Division I schools Stanford, UCLA, Arizona State, Cal Poly and San Jose State, as well as from Division II power Adams State. 

Freshman Kyril Van Schendel led the way for the Stags with a 65th place finish in 25:52.70 over the 8K race. Fellow freshman Miles Christensen was the second CMS runner to cross, earning a time of 26:10.30, followed five seconds later by sophomore Stevie Steinberg in 82nd place (26;15.70). 

CMS also had four runners place between 89-99, with senior Ben Iten earning the fourth position on the squad with a 26:29.40, placing him 89th. Sophomore William Kimball was 93rd in 26:32.60 to earn the fifth and final scoring position on the team, while freshman Alexander Hirsch was close behind in 95th in 26:34.30. Senior Charlie Harris also broke into the top 100 with a 26:38.00, placing him 99th. 

Sydney Gidabuday of Adams State won the individual race with a time of 23:55.60, while Stanford placed five runners in the top eight collegians to win the team title. 

CMS will be back in action next weekend when it has a much shorter trip, walking across the street to run in the annual Pomona-Pitzer Invitational, beginning at 7:30 a.m.
