CMS takes top finish in Connecticut and Pomona-Pitzer Invitational

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps cross country teams participated in two separate events on Saturday morning and managed to take a top finish in both events. The Stags won first place at the Connecticut College Invitational and finished fourth at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational. The Athenas on the other hand, placed third at Connecticut and took fourth at Pomona-Pitzer.

Over at the Connecticut College Invitational, the Stags took first out of 20 schools with a score of 79. Two runners finished within the top-10, including the fifth place junior Joshua Sealand (HMC) who clocked in at 24:52.6 and senior Kyle Lund (HMC) who took seventh overall and was timed at 25:06.2. Junior Kevin Huang (HMC) took 18th overall and finished at 25:21.5 while senior Jesse Joseph (HMC) was 21st at a time of 25:34.2. The Athenas scored at 78, falling behind Tufts and Middlebury. Junior Bryn McKillop (SC) was the team leader, taking fifth overall at 22:00.0 while sophomore Malea Martin (CMC) took 12th at 22:16.6. Senior Carmen Mejia (SC) finished in 14th place at 22:20.8 and senior Caroline Willian was 16th after finishing at 22:25.8.

Sophomore Ben Iten (HMC) was the highest finisher for the Stags at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational, taking 16th with a time of 26:22.1. Junior Collin Barraugh (HMC) followed in 18th at 26.28.2 and junior Alex Mitchell (CMC) was 22nd at 26:36.3. Pomona-Pitzer's Maya Weigel set the female course record at 20:57.3, while the highest finisher for the Athenas, junior Lauren Stanislaw (SC), took ninth place at 22:41.6. Junior Roselyn Cantu (CMC) finished in 26th after clocking in at 23:41.1 and sophomore Matilda Msall (SC) followed right after her teammate with a time of 23:45.1.

The team will regroup and compete in the SCIAC Championships over at Prado Park in Chino, CA two weeks from today on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 9 a.m.
