La Mirada, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps cross country programs both took first place with a perfect 8-0 record at the SCIAC Multi-Dual Meet in La Mirada Park. Seniors Joshua Sealand (HMC) and Carmen Mejia (SC) were the highest finishers for the CMS men and women, respectively, and both took second overall at the event.
Four Stags finished within top 10 at the event, including Sealand and seniors Jesse Joseph (HMC), Garrett Ryan (CMC), and Kyle Lund (HMC). Sealand finished with a time of 26:03.39, while Joseph took third overall with a time of 26:15.81. Ryan took sixth place with a time of 26:28.68 and Lund was ninth, finishing at 26:40.04. Senior Nico Banks (CMC) and junior Kyle Suver (HMC) finished 16th and 17th, respectively, as Banks clocked in a 27:00.34 and Suver followed right behind at 27:00.80.
Six Athenas finished within the top 10 in the 6K event, including Mejia, junior Bryn McKillop (SC), sophomore Malea Martin (CMC), senior Caroline Willian(CMC), senior Rachel Mow (HMC), and junior Lauren Stanislaw (SC). Mejia finish with a time of 21:39.96 while McKillop took fourth place with a time of 21:55.02. Martin finished right behind McKillop with a time of 22:02.05 and Willian took sixth, clocking in at 22:31.72. Mow took seventh at 22:34.85 and Stanislaw took ninth at 22:46.81. Junior Roselyn Cantu (CMC) finished right outside at 11th overall with a time of 22:52.78.
The cross country programs will take a much-needed break next weekend and will enter two events the weekend after on October 15. CMS will send several representatives to Waterford, Connecticut for the Connecticut Invitational at 11:00 a.m., while other will stay at home to run the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational at 7:30 a.m.
