CMS Men's Water Polo Falls to Brown, Stanford at Whittier Round Robin

WHITTIER, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's water polo team played two matches against Division I opponents on Saturday at Whittier, falling to Brown 14-8 and then dropping a 25-3 decision to Stanford.

With the losses, CMS falls to 3-7 on the year, but six of the losses have been to Division I teams, including UCLA, USC and Stanford.

Luke "Bear" Weigle had three goals in the Brown defeat, and added one against Stanford to pace the CMS offense. Cristian Pang also scored in both games for the Stags.

Brown jumped out to a 4-1 lead, before Weigle and Len Korol scored to cut it to 4-3 with 5:13 left in the half. After the Bears scored the next three goals, Weigle got one back for the Stags, and Auggie Aliaga and Gavin Rosser answered Brown goals to make it 9-6, before Brown extended it to 10-6 at the end of the third.

Weigle completed his hat trick to make it 10-7, but that was as close as CMS could come, as Brown scored the next three goals before Ben Weldon found the net in the final minute for the Stags.

Stanford led 8-0 after the first quarter before Weigle dented the net for the Stags in the second. Pang and Thomas Walker added goals for CMS as well.

CMS will be back in action on Saturday when it opens SCIAC play at Caltech for an 11 a.m.
