Zack Rossman Earns Third-Team Academic All-America Honors

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior men's water polo captain Zack Rossman earned Division III At-Large Third-Team Academic All-America honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organization announced this morning.

The CoSIDA Division III Academic All-America At-Large team pools nominees from numerous different sports, including ice hockey, swimming and diving, wrestling, volleyball, tennis, lacrosse, skiing, fencing, golf, and water polo. The award honors student-athletes who excel both academically and athletically during their college careers. 

Rossman was a three-time All-America selection by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches, earning second-team honors twice and first-team honors once. He scored 160 goals over his four-year career, while adding 78 assists for 238 points, and was a three-time first-team All-SCIAC selection. 

This year, Rossman helped CMS reach the inaugural USA Water Polo Division III National Championship game, with the Stags ending the year ranked No. 2 in the nation in Division III. Rossman tallied 37 goals and 29 assists, including two goals against No. 1 ranked USC, had a goal and an assist against a Pepperdine team that reached the NCAA Final Four, and earned two goals and an assist in a win over Johns Hopkins in the USA Water Polo Division III Semifinals. 

In the classroom, Rossman graduated with a 3.86 grade point average as a Claremont McKenna student who majored in computer science at Harvey Mudd and minored in economics. He was an Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches All-Academic Outstanding selection every season, which is the highest level of the award (for student-athletes with a 3.7 GPA or higher). 

Rossman is the 14th CMS student-athlete to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America honors in department history, and the first men's water polo player. He joins CMS women's tennis player Nicole Tan in earning At-Large Academic All-America honors on Wednesday morning, and joins men's soccer goalie Jacob Mays and men's basketball guard Miles President to give CMS four Academic All-Americans this year so far, the highest single-year total in school history, with track and field/cross country still pending next week.
