CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's water polo program will serve as one of the hosts of the annual Gary Troyer Memorial Tournament this Friday and Saturday at Axelrood Pool.

Pomona-Pitzer and La Verne will also serve as hosts of the two-day event, which features a total of 21 men's water polo programs from across the country competing in a total of 41 matches at three venues, separated by five miles. CMS will be in action twice on Friday and twice on Saturday at home, opening up against Johns Hopkins on Friday at 12:20 p.m. and then facing Fresno Pacific at 5:40 p.m. (note schedule change: the original schedule had CMS playing at 7 p.m.).

Last year, CMS picked up a 12-8 win over Johns Hopkins at the Gary Troyer Tournament, in a battle of teams that were ranked No. 2 and No. 3 in Division III at the time. The Stags will be meeting Fresno Pacific for the third time this season, after defeating the Sunbirds 7-4 at the Triton Invitational and 10-7 at the Inland Empire Classic.

On Saturday, the Stags will face California Baptist at 1 p.m. and then wrap up the tournament against Pepperdine, currently ranked No. 7 in the nation, at 6:20 p.m. A year ago, the Stags closed out against Pepperdine (ranked No. 11) at the Gary Troyer Tournament and went right down to the wire, with the Waves winning 14-13 on a goal with 14 seconds left.
