Zack Rossman Earns First-Team Division III All-America Honors, William Clark Named to Second Team
CLAREMONT, Calif. - Junior attack Zack Rossman earned a spot on the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches All-America First Team, while freshman attack William Clark was named to the second team and junior defender Ethan Lewis earned honorable mention distinction, the organization announced today.
Rossman was named a first-team ACWPC All-American after a junior season in which he led CMS in goals scored with 44, was second in points (66) and won 33 of his 40 sprints. He had a total of seven hat tricks on the year, including a season-high four goals in a home win over Chapman, while picking up three goals and an assist against No. 12 Harvard. A two-time first-team All-SCIAC selection, Rossman was at his best against top Division I competition, tallying three goals and an assist against No. 12 Harvard, picking up four points (two goals, two assists) in a one-goal loss to No. 11 Pepperdine, and scoring one of the team's two goals against No. 1 USC. He also had hat tricks against Division I opponents Iona and Air Force and was among the team leaders with 31 steals, including three apiece against Johns Hopkins, Harvard, Brown and Penn State-Behrend.
Clark had an immediate impact on the Stags, earning second-team All-America honors in his first collegiate season, after also earning a spot on the All-SCIAC first team. Clark led CMS with 70 points on 38 goals and a team-best 32 assists, while picking up SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors twice. He earned his first weekly honor after scoring the game-winning goal with three seconds left in an 11-10 win over SCIAC rival Whittier, and earned it the second time after an eight-point effort (three goals, five assists) in a 14-13 loss to No. 11 Pepperdine. He began the season strong, with two goals and two assists in a one-goal win over Concordia (Irvine) in his collegiate debut, and ended it strong with two goals and an assist against Whittier in the SCIAC Semifinals.
Lewis, who was forced to play most of his sophomore season last year in goal, came out into the field full-time this year and benefited CMS on both ends of the pool. He was a first-team All-SCIAC selection, ending the year with 34 goals, 12 assists and 30 steals, including a six-goal effort in a win over Whittier in the SCIAC Semifinals. He also had the game-winning goal in a 6-5 win over Navy with three seconds left, and tallied four goals, three assists and six steals in a 14-13 defeat to No. 11 Pepperdine, setting career-highs in points and steals.
Rossman, Clark and Lewis will all be returning next season as the Stags will look to challenge for a SCIAC Championship, after finishing this season as the runner-up.
