Three Stags Earn Spots on All-SCIAC Men's Water Polo First Team

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Junior attack Zack Rossman, junior defender Ethan Lewis and freshman attack William Clark earned three of the 10 spots on the men's water polo All-SCIAC first team, it was announced today by the league office.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps tied with Pomona-Pitzer for the most first-team selections, while Whittier had two, and Redlands and Cal Lutheran had one apiece. 

Rossman earns first-team All-SCIAC distinction for the second year in a row, after leading the Stags in goals scored in the regular season with 42, while tying for team-high honors with 22 exclusions drawn. He also added 21 assists, and won 29 of his 36 sprints on the year. He had 15 multi-goal games and seven hat tricks, with a high of four goals in a 13-11 win over Chapman on Sept. 18. 

Lewis was named first-team All-SCIAC after finishing the year with 27 goals and 11 assists. He also added a team-best 28 steals, and had his biggest offensive performance of the season against No. 11 Pepperdine, finishing with four goals and three assists to nearly help the Stags pull a big upset before they fell 14-13 on a goal in the final minute. He also scored a big goal with three seconds left in regulation to knock off Navy 6-5 at the Gary Troyer Tournament.

Clark had an immediate impact on the Stags in his rookie season, leading the team in points with 35 goals and 31 assists. He was twice named the SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week, including after scoring the game-winning goal with three seconds left in an 11-10 win over Whittier. He also had eight points on three goals and five assists in the one-goal loss to Pepperdine, and began his career with two goals and two assists in a one-goal win over Concordia. 

CMS enters the SCIAC Tournament this weekend as the No. 3 seed after finishing in a tie for second with Whittier at 10-4 but losing the tiebreaker for home pool advantage. The Stags will travel to Whittier tomorrow for one of two semifinals, beginning at 7 p.m., with the winner of that game moving on to Sunday's final against the winner between Pomona-Pitzer and Cal Lutheran in the other Friday semi.
