William Clark Repeats as SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week for CMS Men's Water Polo

CLAREMONT, Calif. - For the second straight week, freshman attack William Clark was named the SCIAC Men's Water Polo Offensive Player of the Week for matches through Sunday, Oct. 7, it was announced today by the conference office.

Clark earned the honor after a busy week which saw the Stags, ranked No. 2 in Division III poll and on the cusp of the top 20 in the overall national poll, compile a 5-1 record in six matches over a four-day span. The only loss in that stretch was the final match of the Gary Troyer Memorial Tournament on Saturday, when CMS fell 14-13 to No. 11 Pepperdine despite three goals and two assists from Clark.

In addition to the five-point effort against Pepperdine, Clark also had a hat trick in an 11-7 road win over La Verne on Wednesday, and another one in a 16-6 win over Penn State Behrend on Friday. He had one goal in a 6-5 win over Navy on Friday, but also drew a key exclusion with less than 10 seconds remaining that led to the game-winning goal from junior Ethan Lewis with three seconds left.

A week ago, Clark earned the SCIAC honor after also scoring a game-winner with three seconds left, finding the net on the final possession in an 11-10 win over Whittier, which moved the Stags up to No. 2 in the Division III poll. CMS currently stands at 10-2 on the year, including a nine-game win streak that was snapped by Pepperdine. The only other defeat came to No. 1 USC on Sept. 8 at the Inland Empire Classic.

CMS will be back in action this weekend when it travels to Harvard for four matches against Division I teams over a three-day span, facing host Harvard on Friday, Princeton and Brown on Saturday, and Iona on Sunday.
