CMS Men's Water Polo to Co-Host Gary Troyer Memorial Tournament This Weekend

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's water polo program will serve as one of the hosts of the annual Gary Troyer Memorial Tournament this Friday and Saturday at Axelrood Pool.

Pomona-Pitzer and La Verne will also serve as hosts of the two-day event, which features a total of 22 men's water polo programs from across the country competing in a total of 40 matches at three venues, separated by five miles. CMS will be in action twice on Friday and twice on Saturday at home, opening up against Navy on Friday at 3 p.m. and then facing Penn State-Behrend on Friday night at 7 p.m. On Saturday, the Stags will face Johns Hopkins at 11:40 a.m. in a key Division III battle, and then wrap up the tournament against Pepperdine, currently ranked No. 11 in the nation, at 6:20 p.m.

CMS is receiving votes in the overall national poll after starting out this season 5-1 overall (4-0 in SCIAC) with the only loss coming to No. 1 USC. The Stags, who are the largest vote-getter among those in the also receiving votes category (essentially putting them No. 21 in the nation) are also currently No. 2 in the Division III poll (behind only Pomona-Pitzer), jumping up two spots after defeating No. 2 Whittier 11-10 on Saturday at Axelrood Pool. Whittier is currently in the No. 3 spot, with Johns Hopkins, which CMS meets on Saturday, now holding down the No. 4 position.
