William Clark Named SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week for CMS Men's Water Polo

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Freshman attack William Clark was named the SCIAC Men's Water Polo Offensive Player of the Week for matches through Sunday, Sept. 30, it was announced today by the league office.

Clark earned the honor after helping the Stags (5-1, 4-0 SCIAC, No. 4 in Division III) remain unbeaten in league play with a pair of wins last week. He had a hat trick and added an assist in a road win over Cal Lutheran on Wednesday, scoring the final goal of the first half to put the Stags ahead to stay 5-4, and then scoring the first goal of the second half to kick-start a 6-0 run after intermission.

Clark then came up big in a showdown with Whittier, ranked No. 2 in Division III, at Axelrood Pool on Saturday in a battle between two teams undefeated in the SCIAC. With the score tied 10-10 and CMS holding for the final shot, he was able to free himself on the right side of the pool and buried the game-winner with three seconds left in an 11-10 win, his second goal of the game.

For the season, Clark ranks second on the team in both goals scored (9) and points (12), behind only All-SCAC junior Zack Rossman. The Stags' only loss of the season to this point was against No. 1 USC at the Inland Empire Classic.

CMS will be back in action on Wednesday for two SCIAC matches, traveling to La Verne at 4 p.m. and then returning home to face Caltech at 7 p.m. The Stags will then serve as one of the hosts for the Gary Troyer Tournament on Friday and Saturday, taking on Navy (3 p.m., Friday), Penn State-Behrend (7 p.m., Friday), Johns Hopkins (11:40 a.m., Saturday) and Pepperdine (6;20 p.m., Saturday).
