Stags End Regular Season By Doubling Up Cal Lutheran

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Having already clinched a spot in next weekend's SCIAC Tournament, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's water polo team doubled up the Cal Lutheran Kingsmen to end the regular season on Saturday morning. The Stags took a 5-3 lead into the half before shutting out the Kingsmen in the third period to take an 8-3 lead into the fourth before winning by the five-goal margin.

The Stags opened the match up with a goal from Zack Rossman (CMC) less than a minute into the game. Cal Lutheran responded less than two minutes late, but CMS scored the next three goals to take a 4-1 lead early in the second period. During that run, Rossman tallied his second goal of the match and CJ Box (CMC) and Robert Driscoll (CMC) each found the back of the net to put the Stags on top.

A pair of Cal Lutheran goals brought the Kingsmen within one at 4-3. Charlie Thomson (CMC) tallied in the final 30 seconds of the half to start a four-goal run that lasted through the entire third period.

Cal Lutheran got back on the board in the fourth, but fourth-quarter tallies from Noah Deer and Rossman put the match away for CMS. The 10-5 victory pushes the Stags' record to 14-14 on the season and 9-5 in the conference.

CMS claims the fourth-seed in the SCIAC Tournament and will travel across the street to take on the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens on Friday night in the SCIAC Semifinals.
