Stags Best Leopards with Nine Second-Half Goals

LA VERNE, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's water polo team scored nine goals in the second-half to top the La Verne Leopards on Saturday morning 12-7. Five different Stags scored two goals apiece in the game and Ethan Lewis (CMC) made 12 saves to help CMS to their second-straight victory.

The Leopards held a 4-3 lead at the half after Rey Julian Castillo connected on a pair of first period goals for La Verne.

Coming out of the half, the Stags dominated play, scoring the first six goals of the second-half to erase the one-goal deficit. Noah Deer (CMC) led the 6-0 run with a pair of goals. Robert Driscoll (CMC) scored the last goal of the run with a goal just over a minute into the fourth quarter. Following Driscoll's goal, the Stags held a 9-4 lead.

CMS held the Leopards scoreless for the entire third period and the first 3:15 of the fourth quarter, but in the game's final five minutes, the two sides each scored three goals. CMS held on for the 12-7 victory.

The Stags improve to 12-14 on the season and 7-5 in the SCIAC. Just two matches remain in the regular season for the Stags. CMS will host Redlands on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. before wrapping up the regular season at Cal Lutheran on Nov. 11.
