Panthers Edge Stags in Overtime Tilt

ORANGE, Calif. - Chapman's Hunter Ramaekers scored twice in the second overtime period to help push the Chapman Panthers past the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's water polo team on Tuesday by a 12-9 final. Zack Rossman (CMC) led the Stags' offensive effort on the evening with five goals and an assist.

A goal by Rossman with under four minutes left in regulation put CMS up 8-6, but Chapman roared back with three goals in the next two and a half minutes to take a one-goal lead. It was Rossman again that tallied with 1:05 remaining to tie the match and fore overtime.

After a scoreless opening overtime period, the Panthers found three goals in the final three-minute period to claim a 12-9 victory.

The Stags controlled the opening half thanks to a 3-1 lead after the opening period. Rossman had a hand in all three first-period goals. He scored the first and third and sent a pass to CJ Box on the second tally for an assist.

The Panthers found the back of the cage twice in the first two minutes of the second period to tie the match. CMS responded with tallies by Noah Deer (CMC) and Peter Tilton (CMC) to take a two-goal lead into the half at 5-3.

Chapman set up their late match run by cutting the Stags' lead to one-goal after a low scoring third period. Bennett Royce tallied twice and Rossman accounted for the only CMS score in the period and the visitors held a slim, 6-5 lead heading to the fourth.

As noted, regulation would not be enough for these two teams with Chapman claiming a 12-9 win in overtime.

The Stags fall to 9-11 on the season and 4-3 in the SCIAC. CMS will host Whittier on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in Axelrood Pool
