Box Score

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Saturday's rematch against Occidental College provided a similar result for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's water polo team as their contest with the Tigers on Friday. The Stags tamed the Tigers in a 17-7 victory on Saturday for their second win over Occidental in as many days. Five different Stags scored multiple goals with Nick Britt (CMC), Noah Deer (CMC), and Arya Nakhjavani (CMC) leading the team by scoring three goals apiece. Ethan Lewis (CMC) and Peter Tilton (CMC) both tallied a pair.

The Stags outshot the Tigers 32 to 23 and gave up one goal on six of the Tigers' powerplay attempts. Tilton led the Stags with three steals. In goal, Lewis managed a save and two steals in three periods of play while Evan Pauletich recorded five saves and three steals.

CMS wasted no time getting on the board, scoring twice in the first 90 seconds with goals from Britt and Tilton. Those were the only two goals in the first period for CMS and the Stags held a 2-1 lead after eight minutes of play.

Tilton opened up the scoring in the second period and Britt followed seven seconds later to extend the Stags' lead 4-1. After Nicolas Lipari scored the Tigers' first goal in the second period, CMS broke out on a 4-0 run to close the half with an 8-2 lead.

The Stags picked up where they left off in the third period, scoring twice to cushion the lead before Leo Sonner broke the Stags' run. CMS led 12-4 heading into the final period.

Ethan Lewis was given a break from goalkeeping duties and came in the game as a position player. He wasted little time to make an impact, scoring the first two goals of the fourth period. Occidental could not climb back as the Stags held on for the comfortable victory.

CMS now sits 2-1 in SCIAC play with a 5-7 record overall. The Stags will host La Verne on Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 7:00 p.m.
