Stags get another SCIAC win vs. Oxy

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's water polo team earned their third win in SCIAC competition with the 15-11 victory over Occidental on Saturday morning. Junior Graham Fullerton (CMC) and senior Eric Bakar (CMC) each scored a hat trick in the game as the five-goal third quarter took CMS past the Tigers.

The Stags overcame the challenge of playing in Occidental's unfamiliarly shallow pool to hand Oxy just their second loss at home.

The first period saw very few goals as the Stags' defense allowed just two goals from Occidental, including one from William Kim who went on to score five in the game. The Tigers were more successful when CMS defended in the shallow end and put in six goals in the second period. CMS added six as well, but still trailed by one going into the half.

Freshman Ethan Lewis (CMC) put in the equalizer less than a minute into the third period to knot the score at 8-8. Oxy countered with just one goal in the period but CMS sped past with five to go up 12-9. All five goals were scored by different Stags: Lewis, Bakar, junior Arya Nakhjavani (CMC), freshman Zack Rossman (CMC), and Fullerton.

The Tigers were unable to rebound in the fourth quarter as CMS played solid defense to come away with the 15-11 win.

Next up for the Stags (11-13, 3-1 SCIAC) is a home game vs. Chapman (3-15, 1-3 SCIAC) on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at Axelrood Pool.
