Gary Troyer wraps up with two more wins
CLAREMONT, Calif. – On the second day of the annual Gary Troyer Tournament, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's water polo team added two more wins beating Iona 15-11 and Connecticut College 15-9.
Over both days, junior Noah Deer (CMC) and senior Eric Bakar (CMC) each scored 10 goals and had shooting percentages over .400. The team scored 46 goals in the tournament and was excluded 31 times.

The Stags were trailing by one at halftime against Iona 6-5. Four different CMS players had already contributed to the scoring with Deer at two scores so far. Iona's Matthew Rothman had scored three times in the first 16 minutes but then the Stags held him to just one in the second half.
Deer and senior Ellison Taylor (CMC) both scored in the final minute of the quarter to give CMS the two-goal lead going into the final period. The Stags put up another big quarter with five goals to ultimately win by four. In the last period, CMS scored two to each of Iona's goals as Bakar led with two of his own for the Stags' 15-11 victory.
Senior Rye Newman (CMC) made more saves than goals allowed in the game at 12, his most since saving 16 against Pacific on Sept. 19.
In the 19th and final game of the whole tournament at Axelrood Pool, CMS faced Connecticut College. All available players participated as the Stags took the game 15-9 as sophomore Matt Daruty (CMC) led with four assists.
Bakar and junior Graham Fullerton (CMC) got things going with the 2-0 lead in the first three minutes. The Camels rallied back to tie it up at 2-2 but then the Stags went on a three-goal run to end the first quarter, two of which were scored after a CC exclusion.
CMS had as much as an eight goal lead. Freshman Ethan Lewis (CMC) netted his fourth goal of the game and sixth of the day to put the Stags up 14-6 in the fourth quarter.
Sophomore Evan Pauletich (CMC) came in for the Stags in the fourth quarter and made three saves.
With the wins, CMS improves to 7-11. Next up is a trip to Loyola Marymount on Oct. 14 before the Stags get into SCIAC play beginning at La Verne on Oct. 16.
