Lonzo tabbed as SCIAC Coach of the Year; three Stags All-Conference
PASADENA, Calif. – After leading the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's water polo team to 13 wins, a 9-2 conference record and a second place finish at the conference championships, head coach Greg Lonzo has been chosen as the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Coach of the Year. In addition, three Stags made first team All-Conference, the SCIAC announced recently.
The three first team All-Conference selections for the Stags in 2014, all upperclassmen, are junior attacker Tanner Cullen (CMC), senior goalie James Kelly (CMC) and senior utility Mark Nietzel (CMC). This is the second season in a row that Cullen has been selected to the first team while Kelly and Nietzel are first-time All-Conference selections.
Cullen led the Stags in 2014 with 81 goals while Nietzel added 22. Kelly served as the team's main goalie, leading the team in saves.
The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference was established in 1915. The league is currently comprised of nine athletic programs from private colleges and universities in Southern California: California Institute of Technology, California Lutheran University, Chapman University, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges, University of La Verne, Occidental College, Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, University of Redlands, and Whittier College. The conference recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly and annual basis.
