Stags take La Verne 12-4 in SCIAC opener

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's water polo team won their first SCIAC game over La Verne 12-4 on Saturday. The Stags and Leopards met earlier in the season in tournament play when La Verne won the game 13-10. This time around, once CMS took the lead, ULV only came within two goals once in the second quarter before the Stags went on a 6-1 run through the remainder of the game.

Early in the game it was not clear who would emerge the victor as there was no scoring in the first four minutes. By the end of the first quarter, CMS had the 3-1 advantage.

Four different Stags had multi-goal games. Junior Tanner Cullen led with four goals, one in each period. Sophomore Alex Waggoner, junior Adam Hilborn and freshman Noah Deer each added two goals. Waggoner's both came in the fourth quarter to secure the win.

CMS (5-12, 1-0 SCIAC) continues with SCIAC competition hosting Cal Lutheran (4-10, 0-1 SCIAC) at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22 and then traveling to Occidental (5-17, 0-1 SCIAC) on Oct. 25.
