Stags Split Games At Lancer Invite

CMS went 1-1 at the Lancer Invite over the weekend beating La Verne 12-5, but falling to host Cal Baptist 9-7.  The Stags fall to 2-7 overall, but six of the losses are to Division I programs and the seventh to Division II Cal Baptist.

The Stags opened the day with a second win over the Leopards.  They won at La Verne last weekend 16-10 and bettered that margin in the neutral pool.  The key was their advantage in 6-on-5 opportunities.  CMS converted 6 of 11 while holding La Verne to just 2 of 11.  Conrad Shabb led the Stags with three goals while Huston Middlesworth and Eric Bakar each had a pair.  James Kelly made seven saves in goal.

CMS was not as successful in their man-up opportunities against the host Lancers of Cal Baptist scoring only twice in eight tries.  Cal Baptist went up 2-0 early in the contest and CMS could never tie the game up after cutting the lead to one twice.  Tanner Cullen led CMS with three goals, but no other Stags scored more than one.  James Kelly kept the Stags in the contest with 11 saves in the net.

Another Division I opponent, Princeton, is next up on the Stags' schedule.  They will play the Tigers at Whittier this Saturday, September 29 at 10:00.  They will play Whittier later that afternoon at 4:00.  CMS's next home game is not until October 16 when they will have a rematch with Cal Baptist.
