Stags Water Polo Withstands Late Sagehen Rally To Defeat Cross-Street Rivals

A packed house enjoyed a hard fought and close match between the CMS Stags and Pomona-Pitzer Sagehen Water Polo teams. The Stags used a 4-0 second quarter surge to quiet the PP fans, taking a 6-3 lead into halftime. Leading 9-6 with five minutes left, the Stags withstood a valiant comeback attempt from the Sagehens who managed to score twice more to bring the score to 9-8 with a little more than two minutes left to play. However, a crucial missed opportunity would halt the rally as the Sagehens missed a close shot on goal before the Stags put the game out of reach with their tenth goal of the night. Strategic passes and clock management was all that was left for the Stags to complete en route to the victory. Leading the way was John Holland, who scored 4 goals. The Stags improve their record to 9-9 (2-0 in SCIAC) with the victory. The team returns to action at home on Saturday October 22 at 11:00 AM against Caltech.
