Henry Pick Moves Into Top 20 in 5000 Meters at Redlands Final Qualifier

REDLANDS, Calif. - Henry Pick took almost five seconds off his personal best in the 5000 meters with a 14:15.92, and moved up to 17th place nationally at the Redlands Final Qualifier on Wednesday evening.

Pick, who finished third at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships in the fall, moved up from 26th place to 17th in the country, putting him above the qualifying line for the NCAA Division III Championships. The top 20 receive invitations, and Pick's previous best time of 14:20.80 at the SCIAC Championships in April had him just below the cutoff.

There are still six more last chance meets taking place around the country tomorrow before Pick will know for sure if he will earn a trip to nationals with his time this evening. Teammate Stevie Steinberg also sits one spot above him in 16th place with a 14:15.36 that he ran at the Occidental Distance Carnival in March, which set a new program record. Pick already ranked second in CMS history with his SCIAC-winning time, and moved within less than a second of Steinberg's mark at Redlands.

The second day of the Redlands Final Qualifier takes place tomorrow, with several other Stags looking to move into the top 20, or improve on the top-20 marks they already have.
