Cockburn Moves into Third Place in CMS History in 400 Meters

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Jamie Cockburn ran a 47.87 in the 400 meters at the Occidental Invitational, moving him into third place in CMS history and into 11th place in NCAA Division III this season, pending other results. 

Cockburn's time makes him only the third sub-48 second runner in program history and the first since Jeff MacDonald ran a 47.43 in 2013. Ryan Martin holds the school mark of 46.95, set in 2006. He also moved up to 11th nationally, well below the top-20 cutoff to qualify for nationals, with still 10 days left for other qualifying meets to take place. 

Daniel Sealand set a new PR in the 800 meters with a 1:52.74 to come in 11th place. He is still outside the qualifying range in the 800, but ranks sixth in the 1500 with a 3:46.99, which keeps him in solid shape to earn a trip to Ohio for the NCAA Championships. Kai Dettman places ninth currently in the 800 meters. 

John Horan came in second place in the pole vault at 4.42 meters, and still remains in 12th place nationally with his 4.85 earlier this season. 

CMS is scheduled to enter one more event for its athletes to try to qualify for nationals, when it heads the Redlands Last Chance Invitational next week on May 18-19.
