CMS Men's Track and Field Wins 12 Events to Sweep Multi-Duals

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's track and field team won 12 events (10 individual and two relay) as it swept its SCIAC Multi-Duals on Saturday afternoon at the Burns Track Complex.

Five teams competed at the SCIAC Multi-Duals hosted by CMS, although the Stags only had official head-to-head competition against two of them, defeating Pomona-Pitzer 119-32 and also earning a 119-26 win over Cal Lutheran.

Massimo Bertini continued his stellar debut season by sweeping the 200 and the 400 meters for the third time this year, as well as running the first leg of a winning 4x400 relay that also included Nick Teresi, Kai Dettman and Jamie Cockburn

Teresi added to the CMS individual win count with a victory in the 100 meters in 10.96 seconds, just edging out teammates Christian Campbell (11.00) and Timi Balogun (11.07). The three also joined Quincey Williams in winning the 4x100 relay to give the Stags a relay sweep.

Dettman, meanwhile, earned a win in the 800 meters, edging out teammate Daniel Sealand by just 11 hundredths of a second. Kyril Van Schendel (1500) and Henry Pick (5000) added to the running wins, while Joshua Martinez picked up a victory in the 110-meter hurdles.

In the throws, Maxwell Knowles took first in the javelin, Sarath Kakani was the first-place finisher in the shot put, and Jason Bowman captured the hammer throw.

CMS will be back in action next weekend for the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational, which will be held all day on Saturday.
