Bertini Wins 200, 400 at Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers meet

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Massimo Bertini earned first-place finishes in both the 200 meters and 400 meters on Saturday afternoon at the Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers Meet, leading a CMS men's track and field team that finished first in five of the six running events and both relays.    

Bertini had a dominant win in the 400, crossing the line in 48.27 to win by almost 1.5 seconds over Jake Hallesy of Pomona-Pitzer and Mathias Davis of Biola, while moving into fifth place in CMS history. Bertini (21.72) and Christian Campbell (22.00) were the top two finishers in the 200 meters, with Bertini moving into the top 10 (eighth) in that event as well.

CMS added wins in the 800 and 1500 as well, as Kai Dettman took first in the 800 with a time of 1:50.39, winning by 2.1 seconds over Colin Fitzpatrick of Pomona-Pitzer, and taking over fourth place in CMS history. Daniel Sealand then won the mile with a time of 4:09.74, while Miles Christensen was third and Noah Nevens came in sixth.

Henry Pick (8:25.49) and Stevie Steinberg (8:28.39) were 1-2 in the 3000, with Adam Wilkinson fourth, Gus Albach fifth, Oliver Pick seventh, Nick Taubenheim eighth, and Kyril Van Schendel tenth, as the Stags had seven of the top 10 (as well as 11th-place Will Kimball).

Nick Teresi earned seventh place out of 55 runners in the 100 meters with a time of 11.14, while leading the 4x100 relay team to a win. Josh Martinez was a fourth-place finisher in the 110-meter hurdles in 16.21 seconds, and ran the second leg of the 4x100, which was followed by Campbell and Quincey Williams.

The 4x400 relay was also victorious, with Bertini running the first leg, followed by Dettman, Timi Balogun and Colin Scanlon. Martinez added a fourth-place finish in the long jump at 6.33 meters (20'9.25"). 

In the throws, Sarath Kakani (14.64 meters) and Tyson-Jay Saena (13.15 meters) were second and third in the shot put. Jason Bowman was third in the hammer and fifth in the discus, while Truman Knowles was fourth in the hammer and Saena was sixth. Truman Knowles and Maxwell Knowles were third and fifth in the javelin. 

CMS will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts the Rossi Relays, beginning at 11 a.m.
