CMS Men's Track and Field Earns All-Academic Team Honors from USTFCCCA

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's track and field team earned All-Academic Team honors from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, the organization announced today.

The Stags captured All-Academic honors thanks to a 3.59 cumulative grade point average amongst its student-athletes through the end of the 2020 spring semester. That high mark put CMS well above the cutoff from the USTFCCCA of a 3.1 GPA, and also put it near the top of all Division III programs (WashU led the way with a 3.72). 

Due to the cancelation of the spring season, the USTFCCCA only used rankings from indoor season for individual honors this year, which requires a top-50 ranking nationally. The Stags would have likely had several individual honorees this year after outdoor season, with a whopping 45 of its student-athletes meeting the minimum 3.3 grade point average criteria.

A year ago, CMS had eight of its student-athletes earn All-Academic honors, six of whom were also competing this year, including seniors Maxwell Knowles and Wilson Ives, juniors Evan Hassman and Will Kimball, and sophomores Miles Christensen and Jamie Cockburn.  

CMS was in the middle of trying to defend its 2019 SCIAC Track and Field title  this spring before the season was cut short in March. The Stags were off to a strong start, with a dominant win in its first five-team SCIAC multidual at Whittier.
