Thomas D'Anieri Earns First-Team Academic All-America Accolades

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior Thomas D'Anieri earned Division III Men's Track and Field/Cross Country First-Team Academic All-America honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organization announced this morning.

The CoSIDA Academic All-America team highlights student-athletes who achieve success in both academics and athletics, and only 16 Division III men's track and field/cross country student-athletes from around the country were honored on the first team. D'Anieri becomes the 15th Academic All-America selection in Claremont-Mudd-Scripps history, and the seventh to earn first-team honors, one week after Nicole Tan (women's tennis) became the sixth.

D'Anieri capped off his cross country career in the fall with a spectacular finish, taking third place at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships in November, becoming the eighth USTFCCCA All-American in program history. His No. 3 finish at nationals was the second-best in Stag history, behind only the second-place finish of David Juiliano in 2001. He also added the individual SCIAC Men's Cross Country Championship to help CMS to the team title, and was voted the SCIAC Athlete of the Year by the league's coaches.

In track and field, D'Anieri graduated as the school record holder in the 5000 meters (14:21.04), as well as ranking second in the steeplechase (9:06.04). He was an NCAA qualifier and USTFCCCA All-West Region selection in the steeplechase as a sophomore, before missing his junior season with an injury, and was denied a chance to pursue an individual championship as a senior due to the suspension of spring sports.

In the classroom, D'Anieri graduated from Claremont McKenna this spring with a degree in philosophy, politics and economics, carrying over a 3.8 GPA. He was a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team selection and a SCIAC All-Academic Team honoree during his Stag career.

D'Anieri joins JeffMacDonald (a third-team selection in 2013) as the two all-time winners from the cross country and track and field program. He is also the fifth CMS Academic All-America selection in 2019-20, which is the most in a single academic year in the history of the CMS athletic department, joining Tan, Zack Rossman (men's water polo), Miles President (men's basketball) and Jacob Mays (men's soccer).
