Eight Stags Earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors, CMS Named All-Academic Team

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's track and field team earned All-Academic status from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, while eight members of the Stags were bestowed with Individual All-Academic honors, the organization announced today.

Individual USTFCCCA All-Academic honors require at least a 3.3 cumulate grade point average, and either competing in the NCAA Championships or ranking in the top 50 nationally in an individual event (or top 35 for a relay). Earning that honor for CMS were senior Matthew Guillory, juniors Maxwell Knowles and Wilson Ives, sophomores Evan Hassman, Carter Henderson and Will Kimball, and first-years Miles Christensen and Jamie Cockburn.

CMS earned All-Academic Team status for compiling a 3.42 cumulative grade point average as a team, well above the minimum cutoff a 3.0.

On the track, the Stags won the SCIAC Championship by a convincing 40-point margin (after being picked fourth in the preseason poll) and had 22 USTFCCCA All-Region selections, the second-highest total in the country behind 23 from Wisconsin-La Crosse. Hassman earned All-America honors in the steeplechase, Knowles (javelin) and Christensen (5000) provided two of the eight SCIAC individual event championships, and Guillory, Henderson and Cockburn contributed to a new school record in the 4x100 relay to qualify for nationals.
