Alex McDonald Named SCIAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Sophomore Alex McDonald was named the SCIAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week for events through Sunday, Feb. 24, the league office announced today.

McDonald earned the honor after a strong showing at the San Diego State Aztec Invitational on Friday. He helped the 4x400 relay team to a first-place finish, and then came in second as an individual in the 400-meter hurdles.

In the hurdles, McDonald finished with a time of 56.88 to come in second place, finishing behind only Robert Hatch of Division I Wisconsin. McDonald was locked in a tight battle for second place but ended up four-hundredths of a second ahead of Corey Lakin of Riverside in third place.

McDonald becomes the fourth different CMS men's track and field athlete to win a SCIAC Athlete of the Week Award this season. Freshman Keizo Morgan captured the Track Athlete of the Week for his performance in the 400 at the Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers Meet, freshman Miles Christensen earned it after helping the Stags distance medley relay win at the Rossi Relays, and junior Reese Peterson won the Field Athlete of the Week Award for his performance at the SCIAC Multi-Dual held at Redlands.

CMS will be back in action this weekend for its second SCIAC Multi-Dual, which will be held at Caltech.
