Reese Peterson Wins SCIAC Field Athlete of the Week Honor

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Junior thrower Reese Peterson earned the SCIAC Field Athlete of the Week honor for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's track and field team for events through Sunday, March 3, the league office announced today.

Peterson earned the honor after earning a pair of first-place finishes in a four-team SCIAC Multi-Dual at Redlands, which featured CMS, Redlands, Cal Lutheran and La Verne. He earned his first one with a narrow win in the discus, earning a top throw of 126'10", edging out Matthew Hayashi of Redlands by just over three feet.

In the hammer throw, though, Peterson blew away the competition, finishing in first place with a throw of 161'2", winning by 23 feet over Matthew Pedroza of La Verne. Peterson continued to establish himself as one of the league favorite in the hammer after coming in second last year to the graduated TJ Randall of La Verne with a throw of 158'4".

In addition to his two first place finishes on Saturday, Peterson also added a third-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 43'7", just five inches behind Pedroza in second and two feet behind Hayashi in first.

It marks the third week in a row that the Stags have been honored with either the Track Athlete of the Field Athlete of the Week by the SCIAC. Last week, freshman Miles Christensen earned the Track Athlete of the Week honor after running the anchor leg of a distance medley relay that finished in first place at the Rossi Relays. Two weeks ago, freshman Keizo Morgan was named the Track Athlete of the Week after winning the 800 at the Pomona-Pitzer All Comers meet.

CMS will be back in action on Saturday when it travels to Eagle Rock to participate in the Occidental Distance and Sprint Carnival.
