Miles Christensen Wins 3000 at Howie Ryan Invitational for CMS Men's Track and Field

HOUSTON, Texas - Freshman Miles Christensen took first place in the 3000 meters at the Howie Ryan Invitational, hosted by the University of Houston, in a field that included 15 Division I runners, to highlight the performance of the CMS men's track and field team on Friday.

Christensen won the race in a time of 8:29.48, which places him 29th nationally in NCAA Division III during indoor track and field season. He edged out Jordan Leon of Division I Sam Houston State by a half-second (8:29.98) and Awet Beraki of Division I Stephen F. Austin by just under a second and a half (8:30.86).

Sophomore Stevie Steinberg was fourth in the 3000 meters as well with a time of 8:33.53, placing him 50th nationally in Division III.

CMS sent a limited number of participants to Houston to attempt to qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships in March. Senior Matthew Guillory and freshman Christopher LaRovere both ran in the 60 meters and came through with identical times of 7.35 seconds.

The 4x400 relay team of Alex McDonald, Alisandro Fernandez, Guillory and Jamie Cockburn earned a 3:30.54, while Walker Quinn and Garegin Soghomonyan finished ninth and tenth in the pole vault with high marks of 14-8.75 and 14-2.75, respectively.

CMS will be back in action next weekend when it crosses the street to participate in the Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers meet on Saturday, Feb. 16.
