Wagenveld Highlights Stags' Performances at Pomona-Pitzer Invite

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's track and field team crossed the street to take part in the 2018 Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Saturday and came away with two top Division III marks at the meet.

Michael Wagenveld (CMC) turned in the eighth best mark in Division III this year and the top Division III mark at the meet after tying for third in the pole vault with a mark of 4.80m. His had the best finish for the Stags on the day.

On the Track:

Ben Iten (HMC) climbed the Division III ranks after turning in a top-20 time in the 1500 meter run. His time of 3:57.74 earned him a 12th place finish at he meet. Also in the 1500 meter run, Evan Hassman (HMC) won his heat and placed 16th overall, setting a personal record at 3:59.95.

In the 3000 meter steeplechase, Will Kimball (CMC) finished in the top-10 with a time of 9:44.89. His new personal record has him sixth in the SCIAC in the event.

The quartet of Matthew Guillory (HMC), Henry Sojico (HMC), Alex McDonald (CMC), and Corbin Bethurem (CMC) took sixth in the 4x100 meter relay, clocking in at 42.89.

In the Field:

Wagenveld highlighted the Stags' performances in the field, tying for third in the pole vault. As mentioned, the junior turned in the eighth best performance in Division III this year with a mark of 4.80m.

Eric Myers turned in a top-10 finish in the long jump, grabbing eighth with a jump of 6.49m. His mark was the highest among Division III competitors at the meet. He also set a personal record in the javelin throw, reaching a mark of 45.87m.

Eamon Brady (CMC), Reese Peterson (HMC), and Maxwell Knowles (CMC) all turned in top-20 finishes in their events. All three took 15th, with Brady taking part in the triple jump (12.94m), Peterson in the shot put (13.33m), and Knowles in the javelin throw (49.77m).

The Stags are back in action next Saturday, Apr. 14 in their third SCIAC Multi Dual of the season. The meet will be hosted by CMS.
