Stags Post Strong Marks at SCIAC Multi Dual

WHITTIER, Calif. – The men of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps track and field came away with two wins on Saturday, defeating Whittier College 96.5-65.5 and Cal Lutheran 113.0-36.0 at the SCIAC Multi Dual meet in hosted by Whittier College.

Alex McDonald (CMC), Ross Rainaldi (CMC), and Reese Peterson (HMC) all had impressive showings for the Stags.

On the Track

In the 100 meter dash, Henry Sojico (HMC) finished in third with a time of 11.55.

Ben Iten (HMC) won the 800 meter run for the Stags, crossing the finish line with a time of 1:56.97. Teammate Wilson Ives (HMC) was close behind, coming in fourth just over two seconds later.

Stevie Steinberg (HMC) ran to a third-place finish in the 5000 meter run, clocking a time of 15:40.33.

Rainaldi and Dylan McGarvey (CMC) went four and five, respectively, in the 110 meter hurdles. Rainaldi clocked a time of 17.07 and McGarvey finished less than a tenth of a second later. McDonald dominated the 400m hurdles, finishing four seconds ahead of the second-place finisher at 54.99.

Evan Hassman (HMC) won the 3000 meter steeplechase, crossing the finish line over six seconds ahead of his competition with a time of 9:39.04.

In the Field

Along with his performance in the 110 meter hurdles, Rainaldi had an impressive showing in the high jump, taking second with a 1.80m mark.

Michael Wagenveld (CMC) won the pole vault by over a tenth of a meter, soaring to a mark of 4.60m. Jackson Cooney tied for fourth at 4.15m.

CMS took third, fourth, and fifth in the long jump. Eric Myers (CMC) finished third (6.00m), followed by Davis Catolico (CMC) (5.87m), and Eamon Brady (CMC) (5.83m).

Peterson dominated in the shot put, throwing his implement a distance of 12.95m, almost three tenths of a meter further than the second-place finisher. He took third in the discus at 37.80m before winning the hammer throw with a mark of 44.30m. Michael Sill (CMC) also had a strong showing, winning the discus with a toss of 40.33m before finishing second behind Peterson in the hammer with a mark of 38.44m.

Connor Schulz (CMC) placed second in the javelin to round out the field events for CMS with a mark of 46.88m.
