Strong Showing for Stags at SDSU, D'Anieri Turns in Top DIII Time

SAN DIEGO – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's track and field team had a successful showing at the SDSU Invitational, highlighted by a standout performance by Thomas D'Anieri (CMC) on Friday in the 3000 meter steeplechase. The only Division III school in the competition on Saturday, the Stags held their own against some of the top programs in the country.

The Stags jump back into conference action on Saturday, Mar. 31 when Whittier hosts CMS, Pomona-Pitzer, and Cal Lutheran.

Day Two Update (3/24/18)

Four Stags competed on Saturday, including Corbin Bethurem (CMC) who participated in two events. He placed in the top-20 in both the 100 meter dash (10.90) as well as the 200 meter dash (22.21).

Henry Sojico (HMC) competed alongside Bethurem in the 100 meter dash, finishing 36th with a time of 11.50. Alex McDonald (CMC) had a strong showing in the 400 meter hurdles, placing ninth amongst the stiff competition after crossing the finish line in 55.31.

In the field events, Michael Wagenveld (CMC) had the highest finish of the day for CMS. The junior took sixth in the pole vault with a mark of 4.46m.

Day One Update (Mar. 23, 2018)

D'Anieri was one of three Stags in action on the first day of competition at the SDSU Invitational. He won the 3000 meter steeplechase (open) with the second fastest time in CMS history, crossing the finish line in 9:06.64. His time beat the next fastest time in Division III this season by over 10 seconds.

The Stags had a good showing in the 1500 meter run (open). Ben Iten (HMC) was the top collegiate finished, placing third with a time of 3:58.27 and Wilson Ives(HMC) finished two seconds behind his teammate, taking fourth with a mark of 4:01.22.
